security expert fran townsend about all of this. >>> hours leading up to a kansas city chiefs player's murder/suicide. jovan belcher was out partying with another woman the night before he shot his girlfriend, kasandra perkins. belcher and oert woman became separated. he wound up returning to her apartment complex. when he couldn't find her, he crashed at her neighbor's house and the neighbor says belcher was drunk. he returned home the next morning, several hours after perkins got back from a night out. the couple argued and belcher killed perkins, later killing himself. >> we will cherish the wonderful memories we have of jovan and pray that those memories will bring us peace as we grapple to understand the unpredictable and tragic ending of his life and the life of kasandra perkins. >> kasandra perkins released a statement saying, quote, we appreciate the outpouring of love and concern for our kasandra "kasi" perkins. our hearts are truly broken for kasi. she was a beloved daughter, granddaughter, sister, cousin, mother and friend. please keep us in your hearts and prayers as well

. and this is not an isolated incident. in the same vicinity, close to the city, in the span of 24 hours, rebels claim they not only brought down this fighter jet, but also two helicopters. video posted to youtube shows a trail of smoke and a helicopter bursting into flames. there's no way for us to confirm when and where this happened. these dramatic developments are the result of a pitched battle fought here at the 46 regiment base just over a week ago. for nearly two months, they lay siege to the base after clearing the villages around it of assad's forces and positioning rebel snipers in the area. they waited for their enemy to weaken. the government would try to airdrop supplies from helicopters, they didn't dare land he says. and most times they would miss. and we would take the foot. it was inedible. dozens defected. and even more we are told were killed. the final battle to take this massive base lasted 24 hours. rebel fighters used artillery they captured from another unit on the base, firing it into the building and ending the battle. for this rebel unit there was a treasure trove of weaponr

day in inner city neighborhoods, a child gets shot. and it doesn't make the news. that's in every one of those neighborhoods. we never talk about it. i think this is bringing it to our attention because it's neighborhoods like we live in, right? and that bothers me that suddenly society becomes gripped when you have a much bigger ongoing tragedy. i think that says something about our mentality. and you know, i actually think that's why we have a constitution. because, it's when you have tragedies, and when emotion is running high, that you actually need a break to step back from the emotion and think about what's going on. >> wait a second. some of the things that have been proposed have been simply bringing back a ban on assault rifles that was brought here in 1994. >> which the justice department studied and found it was ineffective. you know, sure if we want to do it, that's fine. it passed the constitutional test. but, i don't think that is going to solve our problem. >> it may not solve the problem. it may not have stopped this situation. but it would certainly have some impact.
